Just got this insert I think its a good product overall with some noticeable issues that may bother some people. The look and feel of the insert is very sturdy and well made and when there is enough fuel in the tank the flame is nice and strong without the annoying zippo fuel smell. Some problems, though. The fuel tank is small so I find myself refueling this way more than the standard insert. More annoying is that I can't open the Zippo lid consistently everytime with this insert. With the normal zippo insert the lid opens every single time with little effort, but with the Thunderbird the lid often gets stuck halfway up. This is also the case with my z-plus insert which i've tried in several zippo cases. I still like the thunderbird because it the butane fuel is odorless and stores a long time. 2/27/2010 12:00:00 AM

These are terrific and high quality pipestands that will last for generations. I was fortunate to be gifted one a month or so ago, and I love it. It is beautiful enough in its own right that my wife even lets me keep my pipes on display in the living room now. The seven pipe stand is great for tracking my pipe rotation throughout the week. It is well built, has nice lines and is quite functional: easily resting my largest and smallest pipes in the same rack. I am waiting for a five pipe stand to be listed, so I can put up my last five pipes in my collection in another part of the house. I'm a bit disappointed with it. Two small things I noticed are: Mine does not light every time like it seemed it would. Thought that butane would ignite easier than a wick, but not really. Requires 3 strikes some times. The flame adjustment only works in the very last area towards the high end. Put the screw below 80 % and it goes out, so mine adjusts to either on high or very low flame in like 2mm of turning the adjustment screw. Returning it isn't really worth it due to paying a $9 USP return mailing.1/24/2010 12:00:00 AM

Great lighter. Love the triple flame. One minor issue I had - make sure if you turn down the black knob (flame adjuster) that you get it turned back to a point where it allows for a proper flame. I had turned mine down and then thought I had gotten it back to its highest point but had to put a little elbow grease into turning it back to a proper adjustment. 1/18/2010 12:00:00 AM

This product is almost a complete waste of money. carving the Meerschaum composite is similar to carving a chunk of chalk. The area were the stem meets the bowl broke off and even after being very careful the actual bowl broke almost in half at one point. after a lot of super glue I followed the instructions of baking it a bit and applied the beeswax which did not do anything for the strength. The stem is mailable and it is ok to look at from far away is the only reason it does not have one star. I did not even attempt to smoke it because of the glue.12/24/2009 12:00:00 AM
