RSS News Feed - What Is This?

If you find yourself wondering what this RSS thing is all about, you aren't alone. RSS is nothing more than a standard for exchanging information between websites and individuals who want to get information from them.

You can benefit from using this technology to keep track of what's new and exciting here at the Tobacco Barn website. As we add new and excitinig products, or we have other information that you will want to be aware of, we'll be publishing it via our RSS feed. If you are unfamiliar with this technology, we'll give you a quick primer here as well as provide you with some links that will help clear up the confusion.

RSS (or Really Simple Syndication) is a content format that will let you know when new content is added to a web page. This is done through what is known as an RSS aggregator or on your iGoogle, My Yahoo or other customized home page. You can also subscribe to RSS feeds directly in Internet Explorer 7 or better) or in Mozilla Firefox browsers.

Subscribing in IE 7.x

To subscribe to the What's New and Hot feed in IE 7.x all you need to do is to click on the bright orange RSS icon (circled in picture at left) and on the subsequent page, click on "Subscribe to this feed" on the next page or click on the icon to add a new bookmark and select "Subscribe to this feed". You'll find the feed under your book marks in the future when you want to see what is new.

Subscribing in Firefox

To subscribe to the What's New and Hot feed in Firefox (v2.x), all you need to do is to click on the bright orange RSS icon in the address bar and then click the Subscribe Now button on the next page you see to add it to Live Bookmarks.

From that point on, you'll see a link to The Tobacco Barn News in the Live Bookmarks bar above the browsing window. Clicking on it in the future will show you the current headlines from the Tobacco Barn.

Subscribing in Google Home Page

If you have an iGoogle account, you can add the Tobacco Barn - What's New and Hot feed to your homepage by setting up the page in Google Reader and adding a Google Reader widget to the page and signing up for Google Reader.
