Forrest Coffees are found in south and south-western Ethiopia. This particular coffee is found in the Sheko zone in the farthest southwest areas of Ethiopia that are quite remote. These are the centers of origin of Arabica coffee. Forest coffee is self-sown and grown under the full coverage of natural forest trees, and has a wide diversity for selection and breeding for disease resistance. Farmers today are replanting more coffee trees in the forest but all from the indigenous Arabica stock. It offers high yields and top-quality aroma and flavor. Forest coffee accounts for about 10 per cent of Ethiopia’s total coffee production. Traditionally this coffee has not been processed with any care and has been sold into the local market for blending.
