**2008 Pipes Now Available**
Well, we've done it again. Or should I say, Tom has been at it again. This year's Cottom's Choice Annual Pipe is variation on the a Dunhill standard shape, with a meerschaum spin on it. This year's treasure is based primarily on the Dunhill 42 shape. Available in smooth and rusticated; we've given in to popular request and made an even split between them. We ordered 25 of each smooth and rusticated in this straight dublin shaped pipe.

I am thrilled with my recent purchase of a standard rusticated, so thrilled that I may want to buy another. For those who don't know, the Cottom's Choice Annual Pipes were conceived Tom's first trip to Turkey. Tom Cottom (aka MixMaster Tom) decided on the spot to challenge our artists and craftsmen in Eskisehir, Turkey to create a limited edition pipe that could into a daily smoker for those few lucky enough to acquire one. For the year 2008, this again amounts to 50 pipes in total; once they are gone, there will be no more for this year.
Since these are hand-carved pipes, each pipe is just a bit different than the next. While the basic design of these is dublin based on the dimensions of the Dunhill 42, a select few of these have a slight cant to them making them very much like the Dunhill 137. Carved from the highest quality whole block meerschaum the conical bowl is coupled with a thicker shank than last year's pipe. The long straight black stem contrasts nicely with the stark white of the meerschaum. And rest assured, just like last year, the rusticated versions are not being made this way to hide flaws in the stone, but merely to provide you with an option.
Another of Tom’s requirements is that the price of be kept low to make it more available to our loyal customers. By working with suppliers and limiting distribution to Tobacco Barn retail and online customers, we’ve succeed in keeping this pipe at the outstanding price of $109.95!
Also, to celebrate the arrival of these pipes, we’re taking the opportunity to announce a contest associated with the release of these pipes. This year, we are going to have pipe-specific smoking contest. Anyone with a Cottom's Choice pipe is welcome to enter the contest to be held in association with Jim A.'s birthday in August (see our calendar for exact date). Every contestant will be given a set amount of tobacco to pack their bowl with and the challenge will be to see who can keep their pipe lit and smoking the longest. Prizes to be announce shortly!
